In February 2010, the Boy Scouts of America will celebrate 100 years as an organization. Founded to prepare every eligible youth in America to become a participating citizen and leader, BSA has more than fulfilled its mission. As we celebrate our first 100 years, we not only reflect on our rich history, but lay the foundation for a strong future as well.The Boy Scouts of America's 100th anniversary represents much more than a date on the calendar. It is an important milestone around which to reintroduce Scouting to America to celebrate our rich heritage and to reinforce the important role Scouting will play in shaping our country's future. Scouting is as vital and relevant today as it was when our journey began. Let us celebrate! • August 31, 2009 A group of Detroit Area Council volunteers visited Marquette as part of the nation-wide “Century of Values” tour and sparked the Centennial Spirit. • September 25-27, 2009 Nearly 150 Scouts and leaders from the Hiawathaland Council joined 10,000 others from 11 Scout Councils for the “Great Lakes Centennial Jamboree” at the Experimental Aircraft Association grounds near Oshkosh. This spectacular event to provide a jamboree style weekend to usher in the Centennial Year. • February 7, 2010 Centennial Scout Sunday is an opportunity to recommit to one’s “Duty to God.” • February 8, 2010 The actual anniversary date of the incorporation of the BSA. Every Pack, Troop, and Crew in the council should plan rededication and remembrance activities during the Anniversary Month. • April 10, 2010 The Centennial Annual Council meeting will honor outstanding Scouters of the past and present. • May 14-16, 2010 The Hiawathaland Council Centennial Camporee and Cub Fun Day in Marquette with a Camporee at Tourist Park and Cub events centered at Mattson Park with a gala show in the evening at Lakeshore Arena. • July 26- Aug 4, 2010 This is the pinnacle of the 100th Anniversary of Scoutingthe 2010 National Jamboree. Yesterday merges with tomorrow at the greatest Scouting event of the century. Hiawathaland Council will be represented by 2 troops at this grand event. • July 31, 2010 Everyone can share in the Jamboree spirit with a worldwide webcast of the Jamboree arena show, “A Shining Light Across America.” |
